Cinco de Mayo at CHAC @40 West will feature the work of CHAC artists as they celebrate Cinco de Mayo with vibrate colors and images of their culture and identity as Latinos and Chicanos. There will be a 40 West Art Crawl in the 40 West Arts District, vendors, music, refreshments and more.
Cinco de Mayo is the celebrated victory of Mexico over France. It is acknowledged, of course, in Mexico; however, it is not widely celebrated there. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States. It’s a time for us as Chicanos and Mexican Americans to come together to celebrate our cultura, friends, and family. We do this with cookouts, music, cruising, and arte!
Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5 because it recognizes the day in 1862 when Mexico’s army defeated France in the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It’s also known as Battle of Puebla Day.
This is a family friendly event, free and open to the public.
